He is a Bleek though. Tracks like this getting him no buzz outside his fanbase. You have to play the game to change the game. Talks about being the next big thing but he hasn't transitioned over like Drake, Big Sean, or even Meek Mill. A common person doesn't know J. Cole. He does have a loyal fanbase, I'll give him that but I wanted to see him grow to a position of HOV or YE. That's wtf I mean but you dickriders too blind to see it

The thing about WorkOut is that whether you liked it or not, that song is 100% J.Cole. He produced and wrote it and it doesn't have a big-name feature, which is what most singles nowadays have. Besides it earned Cole a platinum plaque and gave him a whole new set of fans. Songs like The Cure tho are to kinda satisfy his fanbase, but he gotta have those big records ready tho.

Numbers don't lie. His debut sold more than Sean's. And I would bet that Mill won't sell more than Cole neither. And this was BEFORE Workout was getting played everywhere. He basically sold 200K with no single.

When his career is done, he will be in the same category as Hov and Kanye. Bet.

His album sold more but that's his loyal fanbase. He needs to crossover first before I can even place him with HOV or YE and its too early to even compare. It's not being a sell out you feel its just growing as an artist. Touching different genres, anyway its only selling out if it goes against his will but he always said he doesn't want to be boxed in but he kinda is boxed in. I want to see him jump on dope beats and make those epic collaborations. I don't want a return of simba again, I want innovation from him. I could bump Can't Get Enough, Mr. Nice Watch, and Work Out and have a good time. The rest of his music is lyrical stuff that I don't want to hear on way to party or club. I love those songs to death but he can touch all genres more often and crossover. This my opinion though...

From your other posts, it seems like you're looking for more "club" type music. Cole has that with songs you mentioned. But Cole IS diverse. He can do party songs, he can do deep songs. He has something for everyone.

He's just doing him. The label wanted a song like Workout, and they got it. But like you said... He sold 200K off HIS LOYAL fans. Sean, Mill, and hell... Even Chris Brown's latest album didn't sell as much as Cole's. And CB is 10x more popular than Cole.

I don't think it matters if you make club songs or songs for the ladies. If fans feel your music enough, they'll support you.

Money not even made off albums now-a-days though. It's his ability  to sell out stadiums like CB who net worth 16 million after all his bad publicity. I like all type of music just in the summer its a constant party and it be cool to listen to dope Cole summer hit for once. I never downed the track, I'm just saying he could drop a summer banger and get a lot of buzz without "selling out"

I know artists don't get a lot of money from album sales. But to me, selling albums means you have mass appeal. It means people out there care enough about your music that they'll spend their money to support you. And in this day & age, people DON'T have to spend money to have your album on there iPod.

I'm sure Cole will have something to fill your needs with all the music he's been making with Sean, T.I., Hit-Boy, K.R.I.T., etc.

I completely understand what Work Out was for and it definitely served its purpose. Like Cole said, Work Out is not for my real fans, its to grab the attention of people who didn't know him, but to say thats Cole's best work as an artist is ABSURD. The label isn't pressuring him at all with his sophomore album, so I don't expect to see anything like Work Out again.
